LOGAN — A former employee of a local gym was arraigned in court on suspicion that he secretly filmed a woman undressing inside a tanning booth. Tyson W. Hadfield was arrested in September, after the alleged victim reported the incident to gym management.
Hadfield made his initial appearance in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. The 31-year-old Millville man was charged with voyeurism, a class A misdemeanor.
According to a police affidavit, the alleged victim was a 19-year-old woman who said she could see she was being recorded while undressing inside a tanning booth.
The woman said she had witnessed an unknown individual holding a phone over the gap between the tanning booth wall and the ceiling. The gym’s management determined that area was only accessible by employees and Hadfield was the only one working at the time.
The police report stated, when the gym’s management confronted Hadfield about the complaint, he acknowledged to recording the woman while she was naked from the waist up. He also showed officers a chair and mini-fridge he had used to climb high enough to gain access to the gap between the wall and the ceiling.
Hadfield spoke only briefly during Tuesday’s arraignment. He asked for a court appointed attorney, admitting that he had been fired from his job after the incident.
Judge Brian Cannell assigned Hadfield a public defender. He also ordered him to return to court November 5.
