Market for e-bikes is growing steadily in Northern Utah

LOGAN – Electronic bikes are gaining popularity in the U.S. but the e-bike market in this country is much smaller compared to that of Europe or China.

Joe Needham, who owns Leeds E-Bikes locally, said there are many options for the first-time buyer.

”You can definitely buy an e-bike off the shelf at a retail store but most of them are running anywhere from around $3,000 to $4,000,” Needham explained. “They’re pretty expensive to buy a full e-bike just at the shop. Ours is a conversion kit where you can take the bike that you already use and like and turn that into an e-bike.”

He said the kits he sells start at about $550 and range up to $1300. He said his company is one of the few that build a bike wheel to the buyer’s specifications.

“Depending on your rim size or if you want black spokes or white spokes, or silver, we basically build the wheel exactly how the client wants it, and with the motor size that they want.”

He said the Sportsman in downtown Logan stocks his conversion kits, which are also available online, and can fit a variety of different types of bikes.
