Sky View too much for Mountain Crest

HYRUM – Sky View brought their undefeated Region 11 record to the winless-in-region-play Mustangs and looked every part of the number one team in the Class 4A RPI. The Bobcats started slow, leading only 12-6 after the first quarter, before going on a 39-11 run over the next two quarters on their way to a 66-33 win.

The Mustangs played physical defense in the first quarter to force tough Sky View shots, but Mason Falslev turned it on in the second quarter. After scoring only 3 in the first, Falslev outscored Mountain Crest 10-5 in the second as the Bobcat offense got rolling and never looked back. Coach Kirk Hilyard’s starters only played about two and half quarters as his team pulled away comfortably.

The trapping zone defense frustrated the Mountain Crest offense all evening, forcing seven first half turnovers and suffocating the Mustang offense for only 17 points through the first three quarters. The Mustangs had no double figure scorers. Nate Udy and Connor Willie tied with 6, on their way to their worst scoring night of the season.

Falslev led all scorers with 16, Tayden Neal had 12 and Jackson Schumann had 10 points as 11 different Bobcats scored. Sky View has one of the longest teams in the state and their length caused problems on defense and allowed them to control the boards to get second chance after second chance.

Leading Mustang scorer Marshall Nethercott was held scoreless for the first time this season and found himself in foul trouble once again. He spent time on the bench in the first half with two fouls and picked up three and four less than three minutes into the third to be done for the night.
