LOGAN— On Tuesday, President Obama hailed a bi-partisan Senate group’s efforts to put millions of immigrants on the path to citizenship and fix the nation’s so-called “broken immigration system.”

Locally, former Cache County Republican Party Chairman, David James, who is now on the party's State Central Committee, is also glad immigration talks have started. He said he likes the Senate's plan because it says you first secure the border, and then start a pathway to citizenship.

“The problem is, as I understand it, is that they are asking for those that in the country illegaly to come forward now, before the border is secured. If that happens, that creates a problem, because you’ve just taken a significant number of people and asked them for information, in essence a concession. If something happens that someone says, ‘Well the border isn’t secured,’ then what do you do?”

James said people need to make sure they don't put large numbers of people in a compromised situation.
