Hillyard on Saturday meetings

Utah teachers and public employees may be getting a two percent pay hike next year. Unfortunately, State Senator Lyle Hillyard of Logan says that will mostly be eaten up by the last year of heavy payments into the state’s retirement fund. On KVNU’s Crosstalk show Thursday, Hillyard said the 2014 legislative session opens on Monday, January 27th and each Saturday local lawmakers will meet with the public at 7:30 am.

“We spend at least an hour and we just take questions from the audience. We often times will take a few minutes updating things we’re working on and things we’ve seen. There is a number of people who come and I really appreciate that,” he said. “Many people come just because they’re interested. They have no agenda, they just come to listen. Other groups come because they want to lobby things and that’s certainly welcome. That’s what we’re there for.”

Hillyard said the Saturday meetings will be held in the Cache County administration building next to the historic court house.
