Senator Orrin Hatch on public option

By Cache Valley Daily

Utah Republican Senator Orrin Hatch remains firmly against any kind of new government-managed health care plan. Senate majority leader Harry Reid on Monday announced that the Senate health care reform measure would include a so-called public option that would allow states to opt out of the government-sponsored insurance which would compete against private companies in the health insurance market.

Sen. Hatch says simply putting new window dressing on the failed idea of a government plan is absolutely the wrong way to address a critical national issue that affects every American life and every American business. Hatch claims the public option would be the beginning of a federal takeover of the insurance industry. He says once this entitlement has been implemented it would be impossible to dismantle it.

Hatch is an embarrassment to Utah. Ask the Swede's, French, Canadians, and Germans if they want the American system of health care. They don't. How many Germans declared bankruptcy last year due to health costs? Answer: None. In America? Answer: "Researchers from Harvard Law School, Harvard Medical School, and Ohio University reported 60 percent of personal bankruptcies in the United States involved medical bills..." So far, the sign is correct. =)
