Donated food from three Cache Valley producers will be served to thousands of homeless at this week’s Thanksgiving dinner hosted by the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake.

This is believed to be the first ever “eat local” Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless. All the food is farmed and produced in Utah.

One of the companies donating food is Utah Farms, a dairy co-op in Delta, which recently launched its own milk label.

“This is Utahns helping Utahns,” said Cache Valley native Casey Andersen, Utah Farms General Manager. “We would like to have as much food on the table from Utah as possible.”

Cache Valley producers participating are Gossner’s (butter), Utah State University (Aggie Ice Cream) and Hyrum’s Westpoint Dairy (butter chips).

Andersen said the Express Courier Service of Hyrum made a free delivery of all of the Cache Valley products to the Homeless Shelter in Salt Lake City.

Other Utah-based food producers that are donating food include Cream O Weber (white milk), Hostess (rolls) and Moroni Feed (turkeys). The “Eat Local” Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless is Wednesday, Nov. 25, 11:30-5:00 at the Rescue Mission of Salt Lake, 463 South 400 West.
