Logan metro area named No. 5 safest in America

The Logan, UT-ID metropolitan area has once again been named one of the 10 safest areas of the country, this year coming in at No. 5.

The rankings are released each November by the CQ Press, and Logan has been a mainstay on the list each year since 2005, the first year Cache Valley reached the 100,000 population plateau to qualify as a metropolitan statistical area.

In 2008, the Logan MSA was the No. 1 safest metro area in the country, the second time the community received the honor. This year, Logan fell behind State College, Penn., Sheboygan, Wisc., Appleton, Wisc., and Bangor, Maine in the rankings.

Other nearby cities ranked as safe by CQ Press included Provo-Orem at No. 8, St. George at No. 22, Ogden-Clearfield at No. 29, and Idaho Falls and Pocatello at 66 and 67 respectively.

The most dangerous cities in the latest ranking were Pine Bluff, Ark., and Memphis, Tenn.

According to CQ Press, the crime rate rankings of the cities and metro areas are calculated using the FBI's Index Crime statistics, which include categories such as murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and motor vehicle theft.

About drivers, I've lived all over the country and EVERY city talks about how their drivers are terrible. Especially college towns that have lots of younger drivers.

I'd like to see a list of the safest places to drive! I don't think Utah OR Cache Valley would be high on the list!
