Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon has launched his gubernatorial bid saying Utah should dedicate itself to becoming energy independent within 10 years. Corroon is challenging Republican Governor Gary Herbert in a special election to fill out the remainder of Jon Huntsman's term. Huntsman resigned in August to become U.S. Ambassador to China.
Misty Fowler, a member of a group that helped draft Corroon to run for governor, was pleased with rallies held throughout the state on Tuesday. She says Corroon has already established himself politically in Salt Lake County and is known to be politically moderate.
"It was kind of funny that the day the news started breaking that he was going to announce, one of the papers called me to get my input on it," Fowler says. "I said, 'you know the difference between Peter Corroon and Gary Herbert is that Gary Herbert is out there pushing this water deal through where nobody wants it.'
"It's not needed. Even if it should have gone through it definitely shouldn't just be rushed through. That's not something Peter Corroon ever in a million years would do."
Fowler made the comments on KVNU's For the People program Tuesday night. Neither Herbert or Corroon are expected to face an intra-party challenger.

It is very rare in politics to find someone willing to serve the public in a political position whose intentions are spotless and pure. Peter Corroon is one of those people. And thank God for Misty Fowler for taking the lead in convincing Peter to run. Lets be honest, the idea of running for Governor of the State of Utah as a Democrat is either completely nuts or generous and selfless. Peter is the latter.

Seriously, what the hell did Stalin ever do to you? He worked hard to make sure no fool with access to just a keyboard could ever call him a moderate, but there you are, with your keyboard...

TJ - That's pretty rude. Kind of just taking a double barreled approach to the character attack there, aren't you?

Misty is one of the most respected members of the Democratic Party in Utah, and has virtually everyone's ear. Where are earth are you getting your info?

Why is the Daily reporting on what Misty Fowler thinks? She's so far out there, not even the Democrats listen to her. Compared to her, Joseph Stalin is moderate. That said, I do support Corroon's bid. Maybe Herbert can regain some traction with me, but as it stands, I think it's time for a change.
