NORTH LOGAN–Bruce Henderson and Mark Hancey were re-elected as Planning Commission chairman and vice chairman at Thursday’s meeting.

“Do I have to vote?” Henderson said with a grin after the unanimous vote was taken. “Thank you for your vote of confidence, apparently I haven’t messed up too bad. Or you’re just afraid to do it yourself.”

Hancey, who arrived late to the meeting, was greeted with praises and laughter by the commission as they commended his previous contributions as vice chair.

Commissioner Glen Hansen said, “You guys haven’t been in long enough to consider anyone else.”

Following the election, the commission agreed on a positive recommendation for the City Council on the proposed storm water ordinance.

The ordinance will include improvements to canal systems, storm water piping and inlets to collect water on bigger roads, which will help with erosion and mud control.

“As far as storm water, everybody has a different solution,” city planning director Cordell Batt said. “But Smithfield, Hyde Park, North Logan, Logan and Providence cities have all agreed to have one design standard dealing with storm water. It will be a good thing.”

Commissioner Keith Christensen’s request to be removed from his position on the planning commissionn was also discussed. According to Batt, Christensen had other obligations arise that prevented him from attending most of the meetings.

Henderson said, “He’ll be missed. He’s done a great job.”
