Crews respond to gas spill in Smithfield

By Cache Valley Daily

Smithfield firefighters were called to 7-Eleven convenience store on Smithfield's Main Street Monday.

The spill happened just before noon and was described as minor by Smithfield Fire Capt. Mike Weibel. Weibel said someone stopped at the store to fill up with gas and went into the store while the car was filling up. There was a malfunction on the handle of the gas tank, however, causing about 18 gallons of gasoline to spill.

Weibel said the Smithfield Fire Department cleaned the spill up with absorbent materials.
