Logan Council Spice ordinance could be overruled by state

By Rachel A. Christensen

While the Logan Municipal Council brought up a possible ordinance banning Spice, the Council also recognized that the state may create legislation that could override Logan's legislation.

The Logan City ordinance, if adopted, would prohibit the possession and use of Spice, an herbal and chemical product. Spice mimics the effects of marijuana.

Logan City Attorney Kymber Housley said it is likely that the state will pass some form of legislation in January regarding the synthetic marijuana.

Councilmember Herm Olsen said the state's legislation could potentially preempt any local legislation or alter what Logan decides to adopt. The council decided to amend wording in the proposed ordinance in a way that wouldn't automatically surrender Logan to resemble the state's decision.

The Logan Spice ordinance will be discusses again at the Council's next meeting.

When will the media take up the real problems in this country and quit squandering our time with all these trivial things. Take a good look at what is going on in Washington and probably your own government. Look at what they get paid and learn just how much they make, stop letting washington take over the country and make all these laws that will bankrupt the country, like cap-n-trade, the new health care bs, etc.

what a joke. the logan council has no facts, no ground to stand on. Their entire case was we think, potentially, and possible. If you are really worried about spice put some money into research and then make a decicion based on your findings. this whole thing has been a joke and it's sickening.
