USU partnering with Army, LDS Church on safflower and sewage biodiesel

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - An experimental biodiesel plot near Salt Lake's airport is drawing the interest of the U.S. military. The U.S. Army and National Biodiesel Board plan a visit to the 20-acre site at 10 a.m. Monday.

Salt Lake County is ready to harvest some oil seed from the city-owned dry farmland. It's a joint project involving the county, two sewer districts that provided fertilizer and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The Utah State University will provide a bioconversion trailer, which can squeeze oil out of the safflower and produce biodiesel at the harvest site.
