United Way of Cache Valley is looking for volunteers to help with “A Day of Caring” on Wednesday, September 8.
Doug Stephenson is the group’s Executive Director.
“We are going to meet at the pavilion at Willow Park that morning for refreshments as we get ourselves organized as to who will go to what project,” said Stephenson. “Dean Quayle of the Logan City Council will speak to us about volunteerism, then we’ll be on our way.
“Right now we have about 16 projects we’re doing and we have over 150 volunteers. We’re excited about it. We think it can make a real difference in the community.”
Stephenson said this is the first time the local United Way has attempted such an effort, although it has been underway for several years in Salt Lake City and other cities.
“We have a number of great projects that we think can really make a big difference in our community. And we can always use more help.”
Stephenson explained the mission of United Way of Cache Valley.
“We raise funds for 19 non profit agencies in the valley through payroll deduction from employees at their places of business, which makes us unique in that we work with employers and employees to ask for small contributions that, as they are accumulated, really are able to help the community.”
Stephenson said there are several dozen businesses in the valley supporting the United Way through individuals contributing something from each paycheck.
Stephenson invites anyone interested in volunteering September 8 to call him, 435-881-8648.
