Mother arrested in son’s death

Heidi Rutchey, 42, arrested in connection with the death of her 2-year-old son, Eli Rutchey.

LOGAN – The mother of a 2-year-old boy, found dead in his River Heights home, was formally charged with murder, Friday.

Heidi Rutchey was arraigned in First-District Court. She appeared before Judge Thomas Willmore, by video conference from the Cache County Jail.

Rutchey was charged in the death of her son Eli. She was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail Thursday night.

She’s being held on a charge of criminal homicide, a first-degree-felony. Bail was set in the amount of $100,000.

The two-year-old boy, Eli Rutchey was found dead in his home by Cache County Sheriff’s deputies, September 4, 2013. Earlier that day, Heidi Rutchey was driven to Logan Regional Hospital for an undisclosed medical issue.

After the 42-year-old Rutchey was checked into the hospital, questions arose concerning Eli. Medical staff called police dispatch and requested a welfare check for the child at a River Heights apartment near 400 South 400 East.

Prior to her arrest, Heidi Rutchey had been at a Salt Lake area hospital undergoing evaluations.

The case has been assigned to attorney Dave Perry. Judge Willmore ordered Rutchey to appear in court for a pretrial conference, Monday October 28th.
