LOGAN – Marching bands and color guards from around the state of Utah gathered at Romney Stadium in Logan this past Saturday for the Bridgerland Band Invitational. This year, 20 schools came out for the band competition hosted by Mountain Crest High School. Mountain Crest Band Director Jason Petrovich said the high school has hosted this event for the last 25 years. Both Mountain Crest and Sky View performed. Sky View took third place with a score of 847.33 and also won Best Color Guard. Mountain Crest came in at fifth place with a score of 809.83.

Bands are given 15 minutes to set up, perform and take down their set. There are six judges: two for visual, two for music, a judge for percussion, and a judge for color guard. Petrovich said there is a special formula the judges use to give a score out of one thousand points.

Both Mountain Crest and Sky View had a demanding Homecoming Week leading up to the Bridgerland Band Invitational. “It’s been busy. We were also in the Utah State Homecoming Parade. In eight days, we had about 10 performances,” said Petrovich. “It’s been really busy, but the kids were really excited to perform. That’s what kept them going.”

Petrovich added he was happy with Mountain Crest’s performance but they have some areas to work on for future competitions.

American Fork won the invitational with a score of 872.33, while Davis High School scored 852.58 to secure a second place spot.
