Storm causes damage throughout the area

LOGAN — Strong winds caused damage and knocked out power to some local residents Tuesday night.

Large power outages were reported in parts of Lewiston, Nibley, Smithfield, Logan and Preston. Most of the outages were from tree limbs that fell onto power lines and poles.

Some roads had to be closed as crews cleared the damage.

Rocky Mountain Power reported 186 customers in Lewiston were still without power, Wednesday morning. There were also still small outages in Smithfield and other areas.

Cache County School District reported that Lewiston Elementary School sustained some minor cosmetic damage and were without power.  Classes were still able to held.

The winds also blew over several semi-trucks in Tremonton. The empty trucks were traveling along Interstate-15 when they tipped over. Utah Highway Patrol reports one driver had to be extricated from his cab and was transported to the hospital in serious condition.

Several barns were blown over including one in Richmond near Pepperidge Farm. A warehouse roof also blew off near 600 West 250 South, Logan. There were other reports of roofs that sustained damage.

No injuries or major accidents were reported from the storm.

Wind gusts reached 64 mph at the Logan Cache Airport and 72 mph near I-15 in Tremonton.
