Upcoming facilities bond could improve local high school and elementary schools

LOGAN— It means a property tax increase, but Logan School District Superintendent Marshall Garrett says he is hopeful that district patrons will see the need and will support the upcoming facilities bond and voted levy elections just as they have supported public schools in the past.

During a March 28 appearance on KVNU’s Crosstalk show Garrett, said the district’s school buildings have served the students’ needs well, but they are now old. A $55 million dollar facilities bond will go to remodel or replace buildings.

“The primary part of that is $35.5 million for a major remodel at Logan High School. The remainder of the funding would go to a major remodel of Ellis Elementary, and the replacement of Hillcrest Elementary, on-site,” Garrett said. “With that, we would add our current Special Ed preschool, which is located in the Island, it would actually move and be part of that facility.”

Garrett said his district has suffered greatly since the economic downturn but he’s extremely proud of the district’s students, teachers and administrators.
