LOGAN — Deputies, officers and local residents gathered at the Cache County Sheriff’s Complex Monday morning for a special flag ceremony. The event marked the beginning of National Law Enforcement Week, honoring men and women in uniform and those who have died in the line of duty.

At nine a.m. an honor guard, made up of local deputies and officers, raised the flag and then lowered it to half-staff, before leading everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. The flag will remain at half-staff until Friday when there will be a concluding ceremony.

Sheriff Chad Jensen said the Cache County Sheriff’s Office will be honoring local fallen deputies each morning of the week.

“For our office specifically,” said Jensen, “We’re going to do a moment of silence, every day at nine o’clock for our fallen, which is the five that we have.

Following the ceremony, the honor guard traveled to cemeteries to place flowers on the graves of those fallen deputies.

Jensen said the week is a sad time as they remember those who have died but it is also a great time, celebrating the strong friendships in law enforcement.

“We have a hundred and seventy-five employees at the sheriff’s office and I’ve spent as much time with them as I’ve spent with my own family,” said Jensen. “I absolutely consider them our family. We deal with horrific things and see horrific things and share horrific things that even our families don’t always truly understand what it is that we are going through.”

Chief Gary Jensen said the Logan City Police Department is also holding a recognition dinner Monday night for officers in the department.
