Man hospitalized after construction accident

A 22-year-old man was transported to the hospital Tuesday morning after being run over by a track-hoe, northeast of Richmond.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said Jimmy Anderson of Fountain Green, Utah was working with a crew, installing underground pipes for an irrigation canal in the area. Deputies believe Anderson walked behind the track-hoe while it was working. As the track-hoe began to move in reverse, Anderson slipped in the mud and fell into its path. The track of the machine ran over both of his legs.

Other workers on-site heard Anderson yell for help and were able to get the attention of the driver to stop.

Paramedics and deputies were called to a construction site near 500 North 500 East around 9:00 a.m.

Peterson said the accident occurred about three-to-four blocks away from any road and medical crews were unable to drive an ambulance to the scene due to wet conditions. EMTs were able to get in and provide initial care to the victim before he was transported in a pickup truck to the ambulance. He was then transported to Cache Valley Hospital with significant injuries to both legs.

The incident is being investigated as an industrial accident. No criminal charges are expected.
