UPDATE: Deputies continue to investigate body found inside burned out car

LOGAN — Deputies are continuing to investigate a body that was found inside a burned out car near Petersboro Sunday afternoon.

Cache County Sheriff Chad Jensen said they suspect who the victim is, but will not say until the body is positively identified. They also are not ready to say whether the death was self-inflicted or a homicide.

Deputies were called to the scene of a suspicious vehicle found on private property around 4:15 p.m. It appeared to have been destroyed by fire. Inside, they found the badly burned body.

Jensen said the body was transferred to the state medical examiner to ID and determine the cause of death of the person.

The vehicle appeared to have been burned within the last several days and was completely extinguished by the time crews arrived. Deputies have moved it to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office to continue their investigation.

Jensen said the vehicle was found by a family who had gone looking for their loved one, after the person had failed to return home after several days.
