Jury trial scheduled for Torrey Green

Former Utah State University linebacker Torrey Green appears in the First District court on Thursday, the second day of a three-day preliminary hearing. Green is charged with six counts of rape, one count of aggravated kidnapping, three counts of forcible sex abuse and two counts of object rape.

LOGAN — The three-week trial for Torrey Green has been scheduled for the first of next year. The 24-year-old former Utah State University football player is charged with raping seven women while he was a student.

Green appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. Judge Brian Cannell set the jury-trial for January 4 – 25, after expressing concern about trying to hold the trial between the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

The trial will be held in Brigham City. In March, Judge Cannell ordered the change of venue, saying that Green may not receive a fair trial in Cache County because of the recent sex assault allegations at USU. He also granted six of the seven cases against the defendant to be consolidated because of the similarities of the allegations.

The victims have claimed they each met Green through a dating app or on campus. They described how they were raped by the defendant shortly after meeting him. All but one of the assaults took place at his apartment, between November 2013 and November 2015.

Green has been charged with six counts of rape, two counts of object rape, and one count of aggravated kidnapping, all first-degree felonies, and three counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony. He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.

Green is being held in the Cache County jail without the opportunity to post bail. He has been incarcerated since his arrest in October 2016. He is scheduled to appear again in court November 27 for a final pretrial conference.
