A 29-vehicle pileup on Interstate 15 injured four people and shutdown northbound traffic for several hours. The first accident occurred at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. A semi-truck and two cars lost control just south of the 362 off-ramp, southwest of Brigham City.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Lee Perry said a fast moving snow storm caused roads to be slick in the area. The first accident caused a chain reaction of nine other accidents as other motorists lost control, trying to slow down.

Four people were injured. The most serious involved a woman who was driving a tan-colored Honda Accord. She was in one of the accidents that involved five other vehicles, including another semi-truck. The woman had to be extricated from the car. She was transported to Mckay Dee Hospital in serious condition.

Perry said the accidents stretched for over a mile, from the 362 off-ramp to the Perry rest area.

Northbound traffic along I-15 was blocked for 90 minutes. Perry said it took another two hours to clear all the accidents. Normal traffic resumed by noon.

Perry said eight troopers and 2 sargents from UHP responded to the scene. They were assisted by Box Elder County Sheriff’s deputies and police officers from Perry and Brigham City.

Ambulances from Brigham City, Perry, and Tremonton were also called to transport the injured.
