Man robs Hyrum Wells Fargo Bank in Hyrum

Deputies and probation officers outside the Hyrum City Offices after a man reportedly robbed the Wells Fargo Bank, 10 West Center Street Tuesday night.

HYRUM — Cache County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man who reportedly robbed the Hyrum Wells Fargo Bank at 10 West Main Street Tuesday night.

Sheriff Chad Jensen said the robbery occurred just before 6 p.m. when a man walked into the building and threatened the bank tellers with a bomb.

“We had a white male about 5 feet 5 inches tall with long brown hair, a handlebar mustache, and wearing a fishing vest, went into the bank,” said Jensen. “He told the clerks inside the bank that he had a device and that if he didn’t give him the money he would detonate the device.”

Witnesses stated the man appeared to have a small device in his hand during the time of the incident.

Jensen said, “the bank employees did the right thing, they complied with the direction that our suspect had given them. Once he received the money he fled the building.”

No one was reportedly hurt. The man left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Jensen said security cameras were able to capture photos of the suspect. He was wearing a long sleeve shirt, cargo style shorts a wide brimmed hat and glasses.

Deputies and troopers cleared the building and surrounding area as investigators interviewed witnesses.

Jensen said bomb squad technicians were called to the scene to clear the building as deputies canvased the neighborhoods looking for anything suspicious.

Anyone who may recognize the suspect or has information on the robbery is asked to contact the Cache County Sheriff’s Office at 435-755-1000.
