Man dies in farming accident at Hyrum dairy

A 30-year-old Hispanic man died Tuesday, after getting caught in some farm equipment he was working on, south of Hyrum at the Rosehill Dairy, 315 East 6600 South.

Cache County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau said the man was an employee of the dairy and driving a tractor, pulling a feeder. As he was working, the man reportedly stepped off the tractor and got caught in the power take off (PTO), the drive train that connects the engine to the feeder. He suffered fatal traumatic injuries to his legs and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man’s identity is being withheld, pending notification of family. He was a resident of Cache Valley. Even though initially his death is being ruled accidental, investigators and a medical examiner with the sheriff’s office are conducting an investigation.

Bilodeau said his heart goes out to the family of the victim and the other employees at the dairy.  “I mean I feel terrible for him and his family and his co-workers,” he said. “It is traumatic.”

The accident occurred around 5:40 p.m.
