Judge binds Logan man over to face child sex abuse charges

Brian K. Williams, 36, charged with six counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony and six counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

LOGAN — A judge has ordered a 36-year-old Logan man be bound over to stand trial on child sex abuse charges.

Brian Williams appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday afternoon for a preliminary hearing. He’s charged with six counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony and six counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony.

During the hearing, three victims each described how Williams touched them inappropriately; one saying that he would do it 10-to-15 times a month. They also described how he would shower with the girls and “skinny dip” with them in a hot tub.

Throughout the hearing, Williams sat with his head down, avoiding eye contact with the victims.

Defense attorney Camille Neider argued that prosecutors failed to prove Williams touched the victims for the purpose of arousal and should be charged with lesser offenses instead.

Judge Keven Allen sided with the prosecution saying, “What could the rational purpose be then for touching the victims in this way?” He said prosecutors had presented sufficient evidence to show a crime was possibly committed and said Williams would be bound over for trial on all 12 counts.

Williams’ attorney immediately said they wished to enter a not guilty plea on all charges.

Williams was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail May 1. He was released after posting a $40,000 bail.

Court records show on May 5, Williams was also ordered to avoid contact with the alleged victims or any minor under the age of 18. He is scheduled to appear again in court October 20.
