It’s a magical way to usher in the holiday season. Cache Valley Civic Ballet’s 32nd production of “The Nutcracker” opens Friday at 7:30 p.m. on the stage of the Ellen Eccles Theatre.

Sandy Emile, the company’s founder and artistic director, says in all there are five performances: matinees Friday and Saturday at 1:30 p.m. then shows Friday, Saturday and Monday at 7:30.

On KVNU’s Crosstalk program Tuesday, Emile said in addition to beautiful costumes, colorful scenery and commendable performances, the music of Tchaikovsky will be performed live by the Northern Utah Symphony.

“It’s a charming little story,” Emile said. “We have two new stars for our ballet which are Kay Casperson, who is our Nutcracker Prince, and we have Lauren Ellis, who is our beautiful little Clara. They help to make this whole story ballet unfold before the eyes of Cache Valley audiences.”

Emile said a Sugar Plum Tea Party for children will be held prior to each matinee performance. For tickets and more information call 752-0026.
