Logan School Board selects Frank Schofield as new superintendent

It was time to come home for Frank Schofield. On Friday, the Logan City School Board named Schofield as the new Superintendent of the Logan City School District.

“I am thrilled to be returning to the Logan City School District. This is where I started, this is where I learned what it meant to be a teacher,” Schofield said to a crowded room of teachers, administrators, family and community members. “This is where I learned what it meant to educate kids, to be in a classroom. This is where I learned what it meant to be on a team.”

Schofield became emotional when introducing his young family and gave special credit to his father-in-law Ken Pierce, who he identified as his first educational mentor. He then showed off his Logan High football championship ring and referred to it as his good luck charm. Schofield coached with Jim Peacock and Mike Favero.

“I commit to doing everything I can to work with all members of the team–parents, students, teachers and administrators–to make sure we’re focused on the common goals, that we know what we are working towards, that they are clear, and that we are able to all work together and support one another to accomplishing those things at once.”

Schofield first started showing interest in the open superintendent position last summer when retiring Superintendent Marshall Garret encouraged him to apply.

Scholfield spent a portion of his introduction at Friday’s announcement speaking Spanish and directing his comments to Logan’s Spanish-speaking population.

“Fortunately as we went through the interviews and talked about the need to reach out to our community members, the need to reach out to our Spanish-speaking families and continue to build on the idea of bringing everybody in the community together, those are things I was able to do at my other schools. We decided that this would be a great place to try to do that as well.”

Logan School Board President Ann Geary said the board was impressed by the quality of applicants for the superintendent position, their experience and their vision for the Logan City School District. The screening process included interviews and presentations before the school board.

“I was blown away by some of the presentations,” Geary said after Schofield’s introduction. “It really helped us see what could happen in the future. I think Frank’s experience, both inside and outside the district, both elementary and secondary, going to another district but still having a love of Logan and roots in Logan, and his ability to speak Spanish was very impressive.

“We have a very diverse population now and I’m thrilled to have someone who can speak to at least two segments of our population.”

“I have been a Sunrise Eagle, I have been a Midvale Trojan, I have been a Wilson Wildcat,” Schofield said as he ended his introduction, “but I started and I am so glad to finish as a Logan Grizzly. Go Grizzlies and go Logan District.”
