LOGAN — A Utah State University football player, facing theft charges appeared in court Monday and has been assigned a public defender.
Bruce “Jo Jo” Natson made his initial appearance in 1st District Court. He is charged with theft, a class A misdemeanor.
State attorney Jacob Gordon said according to Utah State University police, Natson is alleged to have diverted school funds that were intended for a fellow teammate.
Court records show the incident occurred in February and charges were filled in April.
During Monday’s court appearance, Natson filed an affidavit of indigency and was appointed a public defender.
Judge Thomas Willmore told Natson the charges he was facing were serious and ordered him to appear again in court August 4.
Natson is a junior, originally from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He played as both wide receiver and punt returner for USU last season.
