Boy, 10, fatally shot during hunting trip

LOGAN — A 10-year-old Cache Valley boy was shot and killed Saturday night, while hunting with family, southeast of Red Spur.

Cache County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Matt Bilodeau said the boy was reportedly sitting on the floorboard of a four-wheeler trying to stay warm, while hunting with family in the area. Another member of the group pulled up next to him, got off of his four-wheeler and was removing a rifle when it went off and struck the boy.

Search and Rescue crews, sheriff’s deputies, paramedics and life flight were called to the scene after the boy’s family called 911.

Bilodeau said the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released pending notification of family and friends.

Investigators believe the shooting was accidental and no charges are pending.

Bilodeau said, “As you can imagine the family is devastated. During an outing meant to create memories, enjoy nature, and bring family and friends closer, to have something like this happen is just unimaginable. Please pray for their family.”
