Logan woman accused of passing false checks arraigned in court

Tori Searle, 39, accused of cashing fraudulent checks and stealing money from local businesses.

LOGAN — A 39-year-old Logan woman who is accused of stealing money from local businesses, was arraigned in court on forgery and other charges.

Tori C. Searle appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday morning. She stood in front of a podium as Judge Brian Cannell told her she was being charged with one count of money laundering, a second-degree felony, and one count of theft by deception and 25 counts of forgery, all third-degree felonies.

Police allege that Searle wrote checks that had belonged to a man who had passed away. She then cashed those checks at several local businesses.

Officers initially charged Searle with illegally cashing fraudulent checks. Even after being questioned and charged, investigators believe she continued to pass more checks off.

Police later arrested Searle again after asking for the public’s help in locating her. She is currently being held in the Cache County Jail without bail.

During Tuesday’s court appearance, Judge Brian Cannell told Searle that the charges she faced were very serious and that he recommended she hire an attorney. She was ordered to appear again in court May 10.
