Routes released for Stage 1 of this summer’s Tour of Utah

The excitement over the 2015 Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah having its start in Logan was intensified Thursday when the routes for the beginning of the week-long professional stage race became public. The race begins on Monday, August 3.

Gary Saxton, manager of the Logan Downtown Aliance who is coordinating the local part of the event, said the route starts in downtown Logan. The cyclists then ride through Logan Canyon to Garden City, travel 48 miles around Bear Lake, up through Idaho’s north shore and back through the canyon ending at Logan’s Federal Avenue and 100 East.

Saxton says before that, however, will be some weekend activities.

“A fun team presentation that will occur at the Logan Golf and Country Club on Saturday,” Saxton explains, “a press conference on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Edith Bowen Auditorium, then followed by Monday’s race day.

“We also have the women’s cyclists for their Stage 1 Criterium Classic. It will be a fun weekend for cycling at the end of July and early August. We are really excited to bring Tour of Utah to Logan, especially for Stage 1.”

Although it starts in Utah this will be the first time the Tour of Utah goes through part of Idaho. Tens of thousands of people are expected to view the Tour of Utah on Fox Sports Network. Saxton says Stage 1 is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. and end at 2:45 p.m., covering a total of 132 miles.
