Law enforcement reminding football fans: Don’t drink and drive

LOGAN — The Utah Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies will be visiting tailgate parties Saturday, before the Utah State football game against UNLV. Troopers will be reminding fans about the dangers of drunk driving and rewarding designated drivers.

Sgt. Ted Tingey said, “Game day is an exciting time to cheer on your favorite team, but on occasion, we see fans take things a little too far. We want them to celebrate safely and plan ahead by designating a sober driver to help them get home after a few drinks.”

Officers from supporting agencies will be providing designated drivers a custom football jersey. The jerseys display the number.08 across the chest with names on the back, like: Soberskie, M. Safer, M. Notdrinkin, Soberman and O’Beerno.

Trooper Lawrence Hopper said the jerseys show appreciation to fans who have made plans to get home safe and remind those who are drinking, they have a safe way home after the game.

Law enforcement will also be visiting tailgate parties Saturday afternoon, before the University of Utah’s game against USC.

The DUI-prevention October tailgate events are a part of the statewide “Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative.
