Cache Community Food Pantry still needs items to provide Thanksgiving

As director of the Cache Community Food Pantry, Matt Whittaker wants to provide a Thanksgiving dinner to about 300 people who need a little extra help this year.

“We want to make sure that we can put out everything to do with a traditional Thanksgiving dinner,” Whittaker explained. “We need to collect not only the turkeys, but we want to collect gravy mixes, biscuit mixes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, olives, and baking goods.

“People like to bake and make their own items. It was nice to hear from Central Mill the other day. The called and asked if we’d like some flour.”

He said of course the answer was “yes.”

Interestingly, Whittaker said the item most often requested is cooking oil and unfortunately cooking oil is the item least often donated.

The radio stations of the Cache Valley Media Group are coming together Friday for a Day of Giving. They will be broadcasting live from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the food pantry, collecting food and cash donations from their listeners.
