Preliminary hearing scheduled for past fraternity president accused for forcible sex abuse

Ryan Wray, 26, Utah State University student and member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, arrested on charges of molesting a female student.

<span style=”font-size: 12px;”>LOGAN — A past president of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity made his first appearance in court Monday, asking a judge to decide whether he should face a felony charge, accusing him of sexually assaulting a female Utah State University student.</span>

Ryan C. Wray stood next to his defense attorney, Shannon Demler, as they asked 1st District Court Judge Kevin Allen for a preliminary hearing date.

The 26-year-old was arrested March 24 after several girls called Logan City Police officers, claiming Wray fondled them while attending parties at the fraternity house.

Investigators interviewed the victims who claimed to be inebriated at the times of the assaults. They claimed to have been in Wray’s care, who was supposed to be keeping them from harming themselves while being intoxicated.

Logan City Police Capt. Tyson Budge said the most recent assault occurred just before USU’s spring break. The victim was able to identify Wray as the perpetrator.

When officers interviewed Wray, he confessed to the assault and also provided information on two other victims. He was later charged with forcible sex abuse, a first-degree felony.

A preliminary hearing date was set for July 7. At that time, state prosecutors will present evidence in the case and Judge Allen will decide if there is sufficient evidence for Wray to be bound over for trial.
