Cache County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Christopher R. Simpson Friday night on drug charges after the 36-year-old claimed someone was trying to kill him.
Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said deputies were called to a Mendon home around 7:15 PM, on report of a man running around the area, in a panic and stating someone had shot at him.
Simpson was found to be in the backyard of the home, lying face down in the snow with his hands behind his head. He told deputies that someone was trying to kill him and had shot at him with a handgun.
Peterson explained deputies were immediately suspicious that Simpson was suffering from hallucinations due to his erratic behavior. It was later learned he had been using methamphetamine and other drugs during a four-day drug binge.
“We are confident that no altercation took place and that Mr. Simpson was suffering from drug induced hallucinations,” said Peterson.
Simpson was hospitalized and checked by medical personnel. He was later booked into the Cache County Jail on multiple drug related charges.
