BRIGHAM CITY (AP) – Members of a small-town city council in northern Utah have unsuccessfully tried to request a resignation from their mayor, who acknowledged having an extramarital affair.
Two members of the Brigham City Council introduced a resolution Thursday night seeking Dennis Fife’s resignation, but it failed to pass when two other council members abstained and a third voted against.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports the members who abstained say they felt the resolution was inappropriate, even though they feel the mayor should resign.
Fife acknowledged in December that he had an affair with a woman he once counseled during his time as a bishop with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
