Prosecutors expected to file more charges against North Logan father accused of abusing his children

LOGAN — Prosecutors say they plan to file more charges against Jaime A. Espinoza, a 32-year-old North Logan man who was arrested in March and charged with physically abusing his two young children.

Espinoza appeared in 1st District Court Monday morning for a pretrial conference. His public defender, Michael McGinnis, asked the court to continue the hearing because prosecutors said they planned to file additional charges.

Detectives began investigating Espinoza after his eight-year-old child reported being physically abused by him. The victim disclosed that the abuse occurred at their North Logan home near 1580 North 200 East. The victim claimed a two-month old baby was also abused.

Agents with the Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) were contacted about the allegations and later notified law enforcement.

The abuse reportedly occurred around March 1. Espinoza was later arrested on March 9 and booked into the Cache County Jail. So far he is being charged with one count of child abuse, a second-degree felony, and three misdemeanor accounts of child abuse, assault and domestic violence in the presence of a child.

He is scheduled to appear again in court May 16.
