Little Bloomsbury Art Festival to share message of “Peace & Hope”

“Peace &amp; Hope” is the theme of the 11th annual Little Bloomsbury Art Festival and Concert Series, taking place April 27-29, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 181 N. 200 E. in Logan. Dr. Brenda Sun, founder of the event, said she was inspired to choose this year’s theme after having attended a <a href=”https://ucapconference.org/”>conference in Salt Lake City</a> on March 11, sponsored by the Utah Coalition Against Pornography (<a href=”https://utahcoalition.org/”>UCAP</a>).

“They are educating us on how we can have a paradigm shift in our attitude toward people who use [pornography] and towards even just talking about it,” Sun said. “Pornography is something really dark, but I think we can still celebrate the occasion that we are waking up to the importance of needing to work together and talk about this openly. However dark the other side is, we are going to work together and give each other hope.”

Sun said the art and music being presented throughout the festival will feature multiple two and three -dimensional mediums, including watercolor, acrylic, oil, sculpture and mixed media. Friday’s 6:30 p.m. “Eclectic Hope Concert” will showcase new original music, written specifically to illustrate the event’s “Peace &amp; Hope” theme.

“There may be a lot of people out there who do need help, but just might not know that help exists,” Sun said. “We want people to know that whatever they’re going through, whatever challenges they have—addiction or not—they are not suffering alone.”

Special guests of the festival and concert series will include speakers from the UCAP conference, specifically a young couple working together to overcome challenges within their marriage. Information will also be available from <a href=”http://fightthenewdrug.org/”>Fight the New Drug</a>.

“Really to me, they’re heroes,” Sun said of the speakers. “They have gone through it themselves.  It’s something that could hit home with a lot of people, and they will be sharing their experiences and resources. I think it would be helpful for people to know how to navigate the difficult terrain of having a loved one who is trapped in pornography.”

While the subject of pornography is sensitive, Sun said the Little Bloomsbury Art Festival and Concert Series will be uplifting and enjoyable for everyone who attends.

“I think we have been quite effective in using fun mediums in the arts and humanities to get at rather heavy issues in society,” she said, “so while people are enjoying wonderful art and sculpture and music, there is also a time for contemplation. It doesn’t matter what hard times we go through. We will actually end up being stronger.”

The Little Bloomsbury Art Festival and Concert Series is free of charge and open to all ages.  More information is available at <a href=”http://www.littlebloomsbury.org/”>www.littlebloomsbury.org</a>.
