Sheriff’s deputies have released the identity of a Logan man who died Saturday afternoon in a four-wheeler accident. The crash was reported just after 12 p.m.
Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said Cassidy Wakely was riding an ATV with friends on the Franklin Basin Road, about four-miles off of Logan Canyon, US-89. The 33-year-old failed to negotiate a bend in the road, causing the four-wheeler to run off the roadway and drop over a 15-foot ledge.
Several others saw Wakely ride off the side of the road. By the time they were able to reach him, he was unconscious and not breathing. They began CPR while paramedics were called.
Peterson said Wakely was wearing a helmet. He sustained significant internal injuries in the crash.
Paramedics continued lifesaving efforts once they arrived. They were unsuccessful and Wakely was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have determined that speed was a major factor in the cause of the accident. Officials from the Utah State Parks Department and the State Medical Examiner’s Office assisted deputies in their investigation.
