Meetings about water conservancy district are changing minds

Creation of a water conservancy district has been the top priority for the Cache County Council since Craig Buttars took over as County Executive. Buttars realized it would not be easy because efforts to form a district several years ago had failed.

On KVNU’s For the People program Wednesday, Buttars said so far things are going very well.

“I’m a little bit surprised at the way we’ve been able to reach out to the public and get a lot of support from the people who were naysayers or opponents last time,” Buttars said on the program. “I think that as they are able to see the differences this time they’re willing to put those past prejudices behind and jump on board.”

A public hearing on the water conservancy district was held on Tuesday for residents of Logan, Mendon, Paradise and Cache County. Buttars said it was a good way to distribute information and take public input. He felt good about the way it turned out.

Other hearings are being held and Buttars said hopefully the issue will come before voters in November.
