Cache School Bond passes by narrow margin

LOGAN – The final results were not known until early Wednesday morning. In the end, Cache County voters approved the Cache County School District bond election by a very close margin.

The votes approve a $129 million bond for the building of two new high schools and the remodeling of current schools.

Dale Hansen, Cache County School Business Administrator, said there are still provisional votes left to be counted but it appears the bond passed.

Hansen said, “we are, however, still sitting on roughly 200 provisional ballots that will have to be processed through the County Clerk’s office, to see if those votes can be counted.

“So until those (votes) are finalized, we won’t know the exact outcome,” said Hansen. “But right now the outcome looks very well in favor of the school bond right now, of that lead holding.”

Hansen said 6990 were votes cast in favor of the bond compared to 6806 against it, a difference of 184 votes.

Once provisional ballots are certified, Hansen said they will have more solid numbers. He expects those ballots to be certified within the next couple days.

Hansen said this was an interesting election because each municipality had the bond question on their own ballot.

Hansen said, “we have to go back to each individual municipality, where they have to run their own election and verify the results before they can give them to us officially. It is just working with a lot of entities, trying to pull this together. I take my hat off to the election judges. They were wonderful in responding back to us.”

According to Hansen, the final votes were not known until 2:30, Wednesday morning.
