Box Elder County landfill further out of the picture for Logan and Cache

For a long time Logan City pursued talks with Box Elder County about the possibility of having them take Cache County’s garbage and believed it to be a viable option. However, Logan City mayor Craig Petersen said nothing happened and now Logan City has pursued another site.

Work is progressing on the North Valley Landfill near Clarkston. On Tuesday, Mayor Petersen told the city council he decided to have one last conversation with Box Elder to see if the sentiment had changed.

“We met with Box Elder commissioners a week ago Monday,” Petersen told the council. “The short story on that is I think everyone who was in that meeting, that was city people and also county people, concluded that it’s not a viable option.”

The mayor did not give the reasons, but said he would report to the Cache County Council at its meeting on Tuesday, November 25. Cache County is the sold waste district supervisor although Logan City operates the program.
