LOGAN — U.S. Senator Oriin Hatch, R-Utah, received an honorary degree during Utah State University’s commencement ceremony, Saturday. Senator Hatch was honored along with Samuel Alba (retired United States magistrate judge and current lawyer), Charlie Denson (president of Nike Brand), and Mathana Santiwat (president of Bangkok University).

Hatch received an honorary degree in Doctor of Humane Letters. He said he is honored with the award.

Hatch said, “I don’t know how many honorary doctorates I have, ten or twelve, I can’t remember. This will hold a very hallowed place in my office.”

USU officials say 4,552 degrees were awarded during the 126th commencement ceremony. Of those awarded, 3,633 were Bachelor’s degrees, 821were Master’s degrees, 93 were PhD degrees, and 5 were Education Specialist’s degrees.

Orrin Hatch is a pompous guy who says he doesn't know how many honorary doctorates he has, ten or twelve perhaps. I say perhaps he doesn't know how to count that high. To give him a doctorate shows how low the standard has dropped. It is all part of the process of dumbing down education to its lowest common denominator. I'm ashamed to call USU my alma mater
