Walmart shooter pleads guilty

LOGAN — The 37-year-old Richmond man accused of shooting at a couple in the North Logan Walmart parking lot, has pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm, a second-degree felony.

Stacy “Rob” Willis appeared in 1st District Court Monday afternoon to accept a plea deal.

Under the deal, Willis pleaded guilty to the one charge and had three other felonies and two class A misdemeanors dropped.

Judge Kevin Allen also said due to the facts of the case, Willis would remain in jail without bail.

Willis is accused of shooting at Doug Saunders and his wife in their black Ford F-350, July 6.

Saunders told police that Willis pulled up alongside his truck and demanded money. As he pulled away, Willis followed him so Saunders put his truck in reverse and rammed Willis’ dark green S10 pickup to try and disable it.

As Saunders tried to drive away, Willis shot at the truck with a 9mm handgun three times, one shot entering the back window and exciting the front windshield.

Willis’ was later arrested at his home in Richmond. His truck was found in Smithfield, near Skyview High School.

State attorney Spencer Walsh said the day before the shooting, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Willis’ home after he got into a fight with his mother.

Willis’ public defender said there are additional details in the case that will come out in a pre-sentencing report.

Willis will be sentenced on August 25 and could face up to 15-years in prison.
