Police investigating possible fatal accident near Wellsville

WELLSVILLE — Logan City Police officers are investigating a possible fatal accident that occurred at 6200 S US-89/91, near the mouth of Sardine Canyon.

The accident occurred Wednesday afternoon just after 1:30 p.m.

According to police radio traffic, a vehicle was travelling southbound when it struck a semi-truck head-on, near South Valley R.V. The impact caused both vehicles to catch fire. The driver of the vehicle is believed to have died in the accident. The semi driver was transported to Logan Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers were reportedly pursuing the vehicle just prior to the accident.

The crash occurred in the medium, completely blocking all southbound traffic and partially blocking northbound.

Police are diverting all southbound traffic through Wellsville while they investigate and clear the scene.
