Four dead in Bear Lake boating accident

One adult male and three juveniles are dead after their boat capsized on Bear Lake Monday evening. Three others remain hospitalized when the boat got caught on the lake during a severe wind storm Monday afternoon. Authorities did not release identities of those involved but say they were from Weber County.

According to a report from the Rich County Sheriffs Office, the search began for the boat when it was reported overdue at 6:15 p.m. Utah State Parks officers, Rich County Search and Rescue, other Rich County emergency responders and other local boat owners combined their efforts to find the boat.

All seven occupants of the boat were located six miles north of the Bear Lake State Park Marina. All of them were wearing life jackets but the water temperature averaged 53 degrees. All of the victims were retrieved from the water and transported back to the marina.

One adult male was pronounced dead at the scene.

Three Rich County ambulances and three AirMed helicopters were on scene to transport victims to area hospitals. Two juveniles and one adult female were transported to Logan Regional Hospital and three juveniles were transported to Primary Children’s Hospital by helicopter where they were later pronounced dead.
