LOGAN — Search and Rescue crews were called out Saturday night to help a stranded hiker near Mount Logan.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Brian Locke said 911 dispatch operators received a cellphone call from the man around 5 p.m. He told operators he was in need of help near the peak, after hiking in the area.

Locke was unsure if the man was snowshoeing or cross country skiing.

A Lifeflight helicopter was paged out to assist in the rescue. They were able to fly over the area and locate the man, but because of mechanical problems with their hoist, they were unable to rescue him.

Locke said two rescue crews, traveling up Providence and Dry Canyons, were able to find the man, using the coordinates provided by the Lifeflight crews. He was in good condition and was hiking out under his own power.
