32nd annual Girls Junior America's Cup underway

Logan's hosting of the 32nd annual Girls Junior America's Cup golf tournament began today. The sponsors, officials, organizers, media and two of the Utah team members had a day of golf and information at the Logan Golf and Country Club.
Tara Green and Nikki Gaddie were the two members of the Utah team that will compete against 17 other teams in the competition which begins next Monday with opening ceremonies and practice rounds. Green is 16, a junior at Weber High School. Gaddie was on the Utah team last year that participated in this event in Canada, and she is 17 and a senior to be at Skyline High School.
Sirene Blair from Bingham High School, a 14 year old, and Courtney Smith of Ogden High School, 17, round out the Utah team. Toni Guest is the team captain, and Linda Olsen, a member at Logan Country Club will be the co-captain. These two have been the major organizers of the event coming to Logan, and Utah for just the 2nd time. Ogden Country Club hosted in 1991.
Southern California is the defending champion, and has won the previous five Girls Junior America's Cups. They tied Mexico for the title in 2005. Utah has never won the championship.
Lorena Ochoa, Brandie Burton and Pat Hurst are LPGA stars who have been previous medalists in the competition. The public is invited for free to watch the event at the Logan Golf and Country Club. Rounds begin at 9:30 everyday with Monday's practice and then the 54 holes of competition Tuesday through Thursday.
