NFL scouts will be on hand Thursday evaluating Aggies’ talent for upcoming NFL draft

By USU Athletics Media Relations

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State’s former senior football players will work out for National Football League (NFL) scouts on Thursday, March 11, in USU’s annual “Pro Day,” as they evaluate the former Aggies’ draft eligible seniors for the upcoming NFL Draft.

The players will have their height and weight measured, then go through performance tests including vertical jump, broad jump, bench press, shuttle run, L-drill run and the 40-yard dash.

USU’s coaching staff is expecting 10-12 NFL scouts to be on hand, evaluating USU’s talent. One of the Aggies’ top prospects is safety James Brindley.

Brindley, a Grass Valley, Calif. (Nevada Union HS) native, was eighth in the WAC in tackles with 7.8 per game, despite missing two complete games and halves of two others with a leg injury. Brindley ranked third among defensive backs in tackles. Additionally, Brindley ranked third overall in passes defended with nine on six pass break-ups and three interceptions. Brindley was the top ranked defensive back in the WAC for combined tackles and passes defended, as the two other defensive backs ahead of him in tackles are below him in passes defended and the two others in passes defended are below him in tackles.

Brindley ranks 12th on USU’s career interceptions list with nine, but is second on the Aggie career list for interception return yardage with 210 yards.

The 2010 NFL Draft takes place April 22-24 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Teams select amateur college players in seven rounds, spread out over three days. Round one is Thursday, April 22 starting at 5:30 p.m. (MT). Rounds two and three will be Friday, April 23 starting at 4:30 p.m. (MT), with rounds four through seven on Saturday, April 24 starting at 8 a.m. (MT).
